Temporary People

Temporary people

Pause a day, a week, a year.

Staying for a season,

Never meant to settle, but to steer.

These temporary people,

I often think that they belong

Inside my world for always,

But repeatedly I’m wrong.

Temporary feelings

In hand with temporary lies

Leave me wondering who’s permanent,

On whom I can rely.

You temporary people,

I see you have your place

You show me where I stumble,

You take away my grace.

You lead me forward blindly

You make me lose my way.

But show me the significance

Of those who always stay.

For temporary people

Who don’t deserve my time

Remind me of the all-consuming

Love that’s truly mine.

  1. This is so true.

    “These temporary people,

    • Isn’t it just… I’ve been struggling over the last few months to work people out, to know whether they belong in my life. But I’ve found that these temporary people will be recognised soon enough. And they make it easy to remember how precious the few who become permanent really are x x
