It’s Been a While

‘Tis May, and this will be my first post of the month. I’ve been quiet, taking time with friends and the young ones, enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.

I’ve been debating with myself too, going round in circles over ‘Angry Words’ and the people that inspired that post, and trying to work out how to deal with those feelings. The conclusion I have drawn is that my family are often the people who understand me least and that it is time to take a step back from them for a while. I love them dearly, but there are people who know me better who are more equipped to help me through.

I feel better for having made this decision and my friends are here, as always, to share my smiles and laughs and that relaxed sensation I get from not feeling the need to justify myself constantly; thanks, people, you are wonderful.

A little while ago, I was nominated for the ‘WordPress Family’ award by Kimberly at ‘Words4jp‘… Thank you Kimberly, I am honoured. There are few people I have met online that I have connected with in quite the same way as I have with you and, while I’m not feeling like now is the time to begin nominating others, I wanted to say a public thank you anyway 🙂 I’m looking forward to catching up on your posts!

The Liebster Award

Thank you, Anshuman Dash @ Mute Expressions, for your nomination… I am honoured that you enjoy my writing, having read yours.

What is Liebster Award?

I will quote this from Anshuman’s blog….

The Liebster Award is very unique in the fact it brings recognition to the smaller blogs of the ‘verse.  With that in mind, all of the nominated blogs will have under 200 followers.

The rules:

1. Thank the Liebster Blog presenter who nominated you and link back to their blog.

2. Post 11 facts about yourself, answer the 11 questions you were asked and create 11 questions for your nominees.

3. Nominate 11 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen.

4. Display the Liebster Award logo.

5.  No tag back thingy.

So… first for the facts.

1) I wanted to join cake decorating club at school, but I was way too ‘cool’.
2) I hate getting one word texts. Send me a one letter text (‘K’) and I will growl.
3) My favourite perfume is Pure Poison. I never wear it to work, because I find myself distracted by it.
4) I have a ‘thing’ for accents. I love to listen to people with accents different to mine, and I am known for suddenly starting to talk with a random accent.
5) I love to teach. I love to learn.
6) I had a fling with an OU professor at summer school. He had an accent, and he taught me lots of things.
7) There is only one person in the world who knows everything about me. They know who they are.
8) I used to be able to quote from the bible. Nowadays I’m more likely to quote Shakespeare or song lyrics.
9) I never wear heels. I’m much more comfortable in a pair of boots.
10) When I’m stressed, I often drive for miles or take a kickboxing lesson in the park. I’m a good driver and a terrible kick boxer… but if it makes me feel better, I don’t care.
11) When I woke up this morning, I discovered that I had emptied my book boxes onto the floor and put them into alphabetical order, by author. Sleep OCD. Oh dear.

The Thank You Award – Part 2

I am saying ‘Thank You’ again today…

Thanks, David ( , for your ‘Thank You’ award. I’m glad to have brightened your week!

1. As usual a big thank you and a link back to the person who nominated you.

2. Mention 5 things you would like to do with your life, no matter how mad or tame.

3. Nominate six bloggers and say why they have left their mark on you. Hence the name “The Thank You Award”

4. let them know.

I have to think of five more things… this should be easy, shouldn’t it??

1) I want to live by the sea. I don’t really care where, as long as I can spend my evenings walking along a pretty beach.

2) I want my friends to know that they are loved and valued, and that I will always be there for them when I am wanted. They are amazing, they really are.

3) I want to sing a song I have written myself. I’ve spent years doing covers and I love it, but I’d like to sing something that comes from my own heart.

4) I want to keep making my children laugh; it is the best sound in the world. However old they get, I want to always have this wonderful relationship with them.

5) I want to fall head over heels in love again. No doubts, no ‘what if’s’, just a love that is pure and accepting. I want to wake up in the morning and smile at the thought of another day together.

Now for the bloggers.

1) travisjohns ( He made me laugh out loud. Enough said.

2) Talesofamaninlove: ( He’s in love… and he wants to tell the world. I like that!

The Thank You Award

Thank you for your ‘Thank you’ award… I’m glad you’re enjoying my blog… I know you’ve only been posting for a short while and I look forward to seeing where it takes you.

1. As usual a big thank you and a link back to the person who nominated you.

2. Mention 5 things you would like to do with your life, no matter how mad or tame.

3. Nominate six bloggers and say why they have left their mark on you. Hence the name “The Thank You Award”

4. let them know.

Ok, five things.

1) I want to dance at my children’s weddings. I want to see them find that one person who makes them the happiest they could ever be, and I want to celebrate that with them.

2) I want to keep teaching, and always love it as much as I do now. I want to always have that passion, so that I always do it well.

3) I want to watch the sun rise at a beautiful place in Devon. I’ve seen it set there, and it was the most wonderful day of my life. I’d like to start a new day there one day.

4) I want to be able to interpret my dreams properly. If I don’t learn this, I may well end up always believing that I must be slightly mad…

5) I want to get to the end of my ‘must read’ book list. Impossible, probably, since it grows longer by the minute. But we have to have aims, right??

Now for the bloggers.

I like this guy, a new blogger, he shares some of my passions

I’ve giggled at her drawings many times now

A woman not afraid to state an opinion

The one who likes to inspire debate…

Thank you, Christop, for your ‘irrelevance’

Short and to the point

Thanks, bloggers, you brighten my days.

My First Award

So I have been tagged…

Thank you, lilmissfox, for liking my blog enough to want to know more, but I am about to break the rules.

Rule break one, no photo. I am sorry, I like my anonymity here.
Rule break two, no tagging. I follow too many wonderful blogs to decide who I should tag.

I will give you your eleven facts, and try to stick to things I haven’t already talked about on my blog. Here goes…

1) I wish I had the same kind of imagination as my son. He thinks up the wildest ideas and brings them to life, and I love listening to him argue a case for the ridiculous.

2) I have only been completely in love once in my life. Nowadays I am so terrified of the feeling of loss when it all fell apart that I worry I don’t let myself live quite enough.

3) I am more obsessed with numbers than people realise. I drive my car and calculate distances travelled based on time and average speed. I walk in the park and estimate the gradient of the slope I am walking. I count things out all the time, and refuse to stop on a prime number.

4) I am useless at throwing or catching a ball, but I CAN hit things with a big stick.

5) My daughter has the voice of an angel. Listening to her sing fills me with the greatest sense of peace. And no, I’m not saying that just because I’m her mum.

6) The person I remember most in childhood memories is my brother. I looked up to him so much, but he’d never believe this.

7) I auditioned for the part of Rizzo in a school production of Grease, but they didn’t want a Rizzo who was actually pregnant. I probably wouldn’t have done a very good job anyway…

8) I’m a migraine sufferer. The meds I take now as a preventative are great as far as pain management goes, but work havoc on my clarity of mind at times. This is probably the reason I talk myself round in circles late at night or early in the morning.

9) I choose my friends carefully. I’ll talk to just about anyone, but I know exactly who my real friends are. I’d forgive them almost anything, because they are worth their weight in gold.

10) I told my mum I was bi at the age of 12. She told me it was just a phase, and she was wrong, but I couldn’t have asked for a more accepting family. If I am happy, so are they.

11) Logic is my tool. It always overcomes things in the end, even if it takes a while for emotion to catch up. “With logic comes great wisdom,” or so the cutest multilingual lesbian once told me.

Now for your questions….

1. What is your favourite meal? Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner?
Dinner. Mainly because I skip the other two way too often.
2. Do you have any moles and if so, where is the strangest place one is located?
Under my arm. It is ugly and one day I may consider getting it removed.
3. If you could stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
Right here, right now. I thought hard about that question, and my answer leads me to the conclusion that I’m doing better than I thought I might be, I am enjoying my life. Thanks for asking.
4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
A little house by the sea. I miss the coast and I’d love to have the option to visit whenever I wished.
5. Which celebrity do you think you look most like?
I don’t think I look like anyone in particular, but I have been told more than once that I look like Jo Frost from Supernanny. I think it’s just the glasses.
6. What was the best kiss you have ever had and why?
While watching my first sunset over the sea at a beautiful place in Devon, with a guy I loved so completely. In that moment, we were the only two people in the world.
7. Where would you go if you could get a free roundtrip ticket to anywhere?
Athens. Take me to the Parthenon.
8. Is there anything you collect? Or maybe a favourite hobby?
I collect books, without even trying. I love to read and I do have a kindle but I still buy books anyway.
9. Would you be ok with hiking in an area where there might be bears?
Koala bears? Sure.
10. What is your go-to snack? Are you the sweet, salty, or savoury type?
I don’t have a favourite, it depends on my mood. Mostly savoury but everyone wants chocolate sometimes…
11. Can you hear the fanfare? Confetti to you! Did you enjoy the ride?
I hear it… in my head… or maybe that is the noise of my daughter singing…
